I was conducting a class on Career Development the other day and I raised a couple of questions concerning Career Options. The first question was simple, but raised a lot of eyebrows:
"Would you rather be a Big Fish in a Small Pond, or a Small Fish in a Big Pond?"
Let's translate that: For the same salary and benefits, would you rather have a big shot in a small company or a small shot in a big company?
There is of course, no actual answer to that question. However, a person's ability to answer this question will determine his or her ability to build their careers strategically, and not in a haphazard way, like most people do.
I found out that a couple of them had sleepless nights since then, wondering about their own answer to that question. Good for them.
What's your answer?
